Additional Ingredients Information:
Oats (Avena sativa): a nourishing nervine that contains essential minerals and vitamins. Often used to strengthen, nourish and renew the nervous system, especially when there is exhaustion, overwork, and burnout.
Tulsi / Holy Basil (Ocimum sanctum): folk names include: Elixir of Life, Queen of Herbs, The Incomparable One, and Mother Medicine of Nature. Tulsi is a profound herbal ally with its roots in Auyvedic medicine, used for a variety of benefits as a nervine, adaptogen, immune-modulator, and antioxidant. Included here for its relaxing, neuro-protective activity for those experiencing chronic stress, mental ‘fog’, high cortisol, and exhaustion.
Motherwort (Leonurus cardiaca): “Venus owns this herb. There is no better herb to take melancholy vapors from the heart…and makes a merry, cheerful soul.” -Nicholas Culpepper.
Motherwort is a beautiful heart-medicine. This sheds light to the common name, Lion’s Heart. In Europe, the name “motherwort,” has a literal meaning of “mother-herb.” It is an invaluable herb for heart palpitations coupled with anxiety, as well as menstrual issues caused by stress or tension. I have found motherwort to be personally useful for the emotional body. I have called on this plant in times of grief and sorrow, to offer compassion and lion-hearted courage. Motherwort, for me, offers a maternal like calmness that feels like a whole-body hug: gentle, nourishing and grounding.
Dandelion root: (Taraxacum off.) If there is a single personal symbol of hope for me, it’s that golden-faced flower that peeks out, bursts forth, blooms, and stands tall knowing its place and worth in the world, despite what others may perceive it to be. The glorious dandelion embodies profound possibility for change and incredible capacity for the regeneration of life. Dandelion is persistence, joy in the face of adversity and bliss even while broken-hearted. She reminds us of the wildness of the earth beneath our feet. Dandelion helps to soothe us when we are hot-blooded and irritable, it gives us strength when we are stressed and faced with adversity. I think to use dandelion when one needs nourishment when they are fatigued or depleted. Dandelion has often been associated with joy and I like to think it encourages happiness both actively, through the unfettered cheeriness of its flowers, and passively, by releasing anger and emotions held in the liver and allowing the happiness that is naturally our nature to shine through. Dandelion helps us to clear away obstacles and let go, detoxifying your body and your life. If you feel weakened with indecision, dandelion can bring you strength and clarity to move forward with purpose and ease.
