Autumn Sweet Millet Porridge

Sweet Millet Porridge with Pear, Dates & Almonds (Moistening + Yin-nourishing)

Ingredients (Serves 2):

  • ½ cup millet (rinsed and soaked overnight)

  • 2 cups milk / plant-based milk or water (or a mix half/half)

  • 1 ripe pear (peeled and chopped)

  • 3–4 medjool dates (chopped)

  • ¼ tsp cinnamon

  • ¼ tsp ground ginger or fresh grated

  • Pinch of sea salt

  • 1 tsp ghee or coconut oil

  • Toppings: slivered almonds, sesame seeds, honey/maple syrup (optional)

Instructions:

  1. In a pot, combine millet, milk/water, dates, ginger, cinnamon, and salt.

  2. Bring to a simmer and cook on low, stirring occasionally, for 20–25 minutes, or until creamy.

  3. Add chopped pear in the last 5–10 minutes to soften.

  4. Stir in ghee or coconut oil.

  5. Serve warm, topped with almonds, sesame, and a drizzle of honey or maple if desired.

Why it's great for Autumn: Pear and dates moisten the lungs; warming spices help digestion; millet is easy to digest and tonifies the Spleen and Lungs.
