Additional Ingredients Information:
Lion’s Mane (Hericium erinaceus)
Lion’s Mane is an important medicinal mushroom that has been used since ancient times in East Asia to treat neurasthenia and general debility. It has since gathered significant interest as a phytomedicine for the management of cognitive decline and neurodegenerative diseases due to its profound nootropic and neuroprotective activities. Lion’s Mane fruiting body and mycelia contain an exceptionally large amount of structurally different and potentially bioactive constituents, including polysaccharides, meroterpenoids (i.e. hericenones), cyathane diterpenoids (i.e. erinacines), steroids, alkaloids, and lactones. Lion’s Mane has been found to stimulate nerve growth factor (NGF), promote neurite outgrowth, and enhance myelination in both in vitro and in vivo studies and particularly hericenones and erinacines are thought to be responsible for much of this activity. Furthermore, clinical trials have shown that Lion’s Mane benefits cognition, depression, anxiety, and other nervous system symptoms. Along with neuroprotective and nootropic effects, Lion’s Mane has also demonstrated antimicrobial, anticarcinogenic, immunomodulating, anti-fatigue, antidiabetic, hepatoprotective, nephroprotective, antioxidant, and anti-inflammatory properties, as well as having modulating effects on the gastrointestinal, nervous, and circulatory systems.
